Baptism and Communion are the two sacraments recognized by the Presbyterian Church USA, PC(USA). Presbyterians and other Protestants recognize sacraments as God's gracious gifts given to us by Jesus Christ to establish and nurture our faith. The sacraments are symbolic acts, or "visible signs of God's invisible grace" that are available to all people who profess belief in Jesus Christ as Lord through the church community. The Christian wedding is fundamentally different from a secular wedding in it's basic presuppositions of faith, hope and love in Jesus Christ. Presbyterians consider the wedding ceremony a service of worship. Weddings at First Presbyterian Church honor God and the covenant of marriage. Funerals and memorial services are worship services which give thanks to God for the gifts of life and life eternal. They are a celebration of the life of the loved one who has died, and a time of reflection coupled with an opportunity to say goodbye for those who remain. Funeral and memorial services are opportunities to celebrate life and claim the promise of resurrection to new life for God's faithful followers. Please contact the church office to schedule a memorial or funeral service. |
